Summary
In 1975, the Trustees of the Kelley Library in Salem, New Hampshire, began planning for a much-needed addition. Preliminary sketches and plans were commissioned. The hope was to double the size of the adult facilities, create a Children?s room, double the Reference Area, expand meeting rooms space, and more. Because they had already begun planning for an addition project and had proposed floor plans and sites plans, they were able complete a grant application for the Local Public Works Capital Development and Invest Act, as administered by the Economic Development Administration, during the narrow time widow it was open, that would fund the entire project. The project was approved by the EDA and the voters of Salem, and construction was completed during 1977-1978, increasing the size of the Kelley Library from 12,600 square feet to almost 22,000 square feet. The Trustees that oversaw the expansion were Katherine Kelley, Robert Kelly, and Anna Willis. The new wing was eventually named for the long-time library director that oversaw the expansion, Edward V. Reed. This archival collection contains materials from the addition project. A Fact Sheet created by the Library Trustees, outlines the hopes and goals of the addition project for the voters of Salem. There are copies of plans and reports from the architects, engineers, contractors, and designers. The box also contains a final financial audit
